Sunflower Bank Employees Drive Longstanding Support for United Way

For more than twenty years, Sunflower Bank has proudly supported United Way organizations across its communities. Through employee giving campaigns and hands-on volunteerism, this annual effort has become a meaningful tradition that reflects our commitment to supporting the places where our employees live and work.

Employee Participation Leads the Charge

Led each year by the Human Resources department, our United Way campaign engages employees across its footprint to support through a combination of payroll deductions, one-time gifts, and corporate contributions. In 2024 alone, employees pledged more than $32,000, bringing the total contributions to over $217,000 since 2019.

“Human Resources is proud to lead this initiative each year and create a campaign that resonates with employees. Our goal is to provide a simple, accessible way for employees to make an impact in their own communities. By working with Valley of the Sun United Way, we’re able to offer a centralized platform for donations and ensure that every payroll pledge goes directly to the local United Way chapter chosen by the employee—whether they choose to support education, healthcare, childcare, or financial literacy.”

Jenny Mitchell, Director of Human Resources

To help drive awareness and participation, the HR team organizes company-wide activities throughout the campaign period, including themed spirit days like Twinning Tuesday and Wacky Wednesday. These events build excitement and connection while reminding employees of the important work done by United Way.

Local Impact Brings United Way Partnership to Life

While our support for United Way is bank-wide, the local partnerships that are built and strengthened in our individual communities are the foundation of this partnership. One local example of this impact can be seen through the Salina Area United Way (SAUW). Sunflower Bank has long been a consistent and valued supporter of SAUW. Since 2017 (as far back as their tracking goes), the Salina campaign alone has raised more than $55,000 in corporate and employee donations.

Most recently, Sunflower Bank helped bring SAUW’s Reality U program to students at Southeast of Saline Schools. Reality U is an innovative interactive financial literacy simulation that teaches budgeting, credit management, and the importance of informed decision-making. In addition to providing financial support, our employees volunteered at the event, providing real-time guidance to students navigating the simulation.

“Sunflower Bank has long been a valued partner to the Salina Area United Way, offering both financial support and the hands-on help of their team. Their willingness to step in and volunteer speaks volumes about their dedication to making a difference where they can. We’re thankful for their continued support and the role they play in helping us reach more people in meaningful ways.”
